Resources

Here are some of the resources that have helped us to thrive:

The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential

This tiny little non-profit just outside of Philadelphia is the home of the brightest, most hopeful, most helpful people on the planet.  This is where I learned about how to fix Haylie’s brain injury, and honestly, to live my own best life ever.  They pioneer programs that treat the brain and teach parents how to implement them.  If your child isn’t developing as they should, if you know in your gut that something is wrong, the answers are here.  http://www.iahp.org

Dr. Phil Maffetone

In one word, a genius.  Holistic health care pioneer and practitioner turned musician, Phil teaches how you can improve your overall fitness and health by harnessing the body’s own natural evolutionary mechanisms.  Working with him has forever changed my understanding of what it means to be well and the miraculous power of the body and brain to balance itself.  He has written many books on fitness, wellness, health, training, and nutrition.  His website is http://www.philmaffetone.com

Dr. Coralee Thompson

Teacher, physician, friend, and mentor extraordinaire.  She is a living example of the ideals of the Hippocratic Oath.  She walks her talk.  She is the reason my daughter has been completely detoxified from all anticonvulsant medications since she was eight years old and the reason that we are no longer afraid of the seizures that do come, very few and far between.  Her book (co-written with Dr. Maffetone) Heatlhy Brains, Healthy Children is a must-read for all parents.  It is available here: http://www.amazon.com/Healthy-Brains-Children-Parents-Healthier/dp/1439267243

Paleo Diet

I must admit that when I first heard about this movement I was more than a little peeved.  I mean, I had already been eating like this for over a decade.  Who do they think they are naming it a whole new movement?!  Well, the wealth of information, good science, new recipes, and overall community support of this Paleo thing is extraordinary.  It is bringing to light just how well we humans can be when we eat in line with our evolutionary genetic needs.  Some of the best and brightest leaders in the Paleo world continue to educate and inspire me:
